Vintage graphic tee from 1990 Spike Lee film Mo’ Better Blues. The front features the phrase “Love Supreme” with a trumpet motif and the line “a Spike Lee joint for the 90s,” referencing Lee’s well known admiration for legendary jazz saxophonist John Coltrane. It’s said Lee originally hoped to title the film “A Love Supreme,” after Coltrane’s iconic album, though the name was ultimately not used.
The back print completes the tribute with a reproduction of John Coltrane’s handwritten “A Love Supreme” musical score, making this piece a subtle crossover between film history and classic jazz culture.
